John-von-Neumann lecture - Sommersemester 2015

The total variation flow and the mean curvature flow.

Prof. Matteo Novaga

The course will take place from April, 13 until May, 29, 2015. Exact times and locations tba.

Content:

I will present two important evolution equations which attracted a lot of attention in recent years: the total variation flow and the mean curvature flow.
After an introduction on BV functions and sets of finite perimeter, I will discuss the main theoretical features of these evolutions, such as existence and properties of solutions, together with a few applications.

Prerequisites (recommended):

Bachelor degree in Mathematics, Physics or Computer Science.

Learning Outcomes:

After successful completion of the module, students will have a general knowledge of degenerate parabolic equation of second order, and possible applications.
